We’re Helping Victims and Their Pets Stay Together

Victims should never have to give up their animals because of the financial burden of providing for animal care.

Our microgrants are intended to help victims and their animals stay together by helping to provide financial support for approved animal care costs for Dane County victims who are working with a local domestic abuse agency or nonprofit. SAAV works with the victim’s case worker in reference to the application, as we are a small volunteer-based nonprofit and not able to work directly with victims.

Victims who are currently receiving services from a Dane County domestic abuse agency or nonprofit can apply to SAAV for grants through their caseworker for the following:

  • Pet food or other animal care items (provided via gift card to Mounds and/or Chewy);

  • Veterinary wellness visit (to include: wellness exam, Rabies/DAPP Vaccines (Canine Distemper Virus, Canine Adenovirus types 1 & 2, Canine Parainfluenza Virus, & Canine Parvovirus), a heartworm test, as well as three months of preventatives for heartworm and flea and tick);

  • Emergency veterinary services, awarded on a case-by-case basis (note that SAAV does not arrange emergency veterinary care for applicants)

Grants are generally limited to a maximum of $200 per animal (with the exception of emergency veterinary services).

Apply

To apply for a SAAV Grant, please email info@saavprogram.org for the application form to be completed with your caseworker.

SAAV is a volunteer-based organization, so it may take us several days to provide an initial response to your inquiry. SAAV provides grants by directly paying the service provider on the applicant’s behalf, or, for animal care items, will purchase those items and provide them to the applicant (such as pet food).

By applying, you are authorizing Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims (SAAV) and the domestic abuse agency or organization that you are receiving services from to communicate with one another about your application. The identity of grant applicants will otherwise be kept confidential consistent with our privacy policy. Funding decisions are made by SAAV in its discretion.
