Grants
We’re Helping Victims and Their Pets Stay Together
Our microgrants are intended to help victims and their animals stay together by helping to provide financial support for approved animal care costs for Dane County victims who are currently working with a local domestic abuse agency or nonprofit.
Grants are typically limited to the following categories:
Pet food or other animal care items (provided via gift card to Mounds and/or Chewy);
Veterinary wellness visit package at a collaborating referral clinic (to include: wellness exam, Rabies/DAPP Vaccines (Canine Distemper Virus, Canine Adenovirus types 1 & 2, Canine Parainfluenza Virus, & Canine Parvovirus), a heartworm test, as well as three months of preventatives for heartworm and flea and tick);
Boarding costs necessitated by safety planning for pets.
Grants are generally limited to a maximum of $250 per animal.
Applications must be submitted by a caseworker on behalf of the victim, and SAAV works with the victim’s case worker in reference to the application. Victims who are currently receiving services from a Dane County domestic abuse agency or nonprofit can ask their caseworker to reach out to SAAV at info@saavprogram.org to obtain information about applying for a grant. SAAV is a volunteer-based organization, so it may take us several days to provide an initial response to inquiries.
SAAV provides grants by directly paying the service provider on the applicant’s behalf, or, for animal care items, will purchase those items and provide them to the applicant (such as pet food).
By applying, you are authorizing Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims (SAAV) and the domestic abuse agency or organization that you are receiving services from to communicate with one another about your application. The identity of grant applicants will otherwise be kept confidential consistent with our privacy policy. Funding decisions are made by SAAV in its discretion.
