Help victims of domestic abuse through foster or outreach.

Foster: Provide Pets Safe Shelter

SAAV Shelter is made possible because of the generosity of people in our community who open their homes and their hearts to animals affected by domestic abuse. To join our foster network, we require a commitment to shelter an animal for up to 90 days. Our goal is to have an extensive foster network so that foster never becomes a burden. Learn more to see if fostering with us is a good fit for you.

To apply to join our foster network, fosters must:

  • Complete a foster application for the Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) if not already a DCHS approved foster;

  • Complete a SAAV Foster Volunteer Application (below);

  • Pass a criminal background check;

  • Be approved to foster by SAAV and DCHS;

  • Attend a SAAV Orientation to learn the dynamics of domestic abuse, the link with animal cruelty, and the unique features of SAAV’s Shelter; and

  • Attend a DCHS general foster orientation session.

If you have any questions, please send us an email for more information to info@saavprogram.org.

Thank you!

Outreach: Spread the word.

If fostering is not for you, you can still join our mission. SAAV is always in need of volunteers to help staff booths at community events and help with outreach. SAAV Community Educators must attend a SAAV Orientation session to learn about domestic abuse, the link with animal cruelty, and unique features of SAAV Shelter.

To join our network of Community Educators, please complete the Outreach Volunteer Application and submit it to info@saavprogram.org or PO Box 5152, Madison, WI 53705.
