In honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October 2016, SAAV announced the release an outreach campaign to educate veterinarians about the link.
Veterinarians are a critical resource for humans and animal affected by violence in their homes. We have created a brochure designed for veterinarians to provide information about the link between domestic violence and animal abuse, warning signs, and how veterinarians can help stop the cycle of abuse. Our brochure can be downloaded as a free PDF here.
Additional resources for veterinarians are also included here:
A national directory of shelter programs for pets of domestic abuse victims through Ahimsa House.
The Battered Pet - a fantastic article in O Magazine about the role of animals of domestic abuse and how veterinarians may encounter abuse, by author Barry Yeoman.
The American Veterinary Medical Association's Animal Abuse Response - Resources For Veterinarians.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals provides comprehensive information about The Veterinarian's Legal Role In Animal Cruelty Cases.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund's guide to The Veterinarian's Role In Reporting Animal Cruelty.
